Marshall Turbeville
Hometown: Geyserville, CA
Education: Marshall holds a BS in both Civil Engineering and Forestry and Natural Resources from Cal Poly, SLO.
Career History: Marshall began his career with the District as a Volunteer Firefighter in 1995 and was chosen to serve as Fire Chief in 2013. Marshall also began working for Cal Fire during the summer of 1995 and is currently a Battalion Chief. In addition to working for the District and for Cal Fire, Marshall also teaches forestry and fire classes at the Santa Rosa Junior College.
Awards: Marshall received the prestigious International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) Fire Chief of the Year in 2022. This award recognizes one volunteer fire chief for their leadership, innovation, professional development, integrity, public service, and contributions to the fire service.
Also in 2022, Marshall received the Harmon Heald Award for Lasting Community Impact from the Healdsburg Forever Foundation. In addition, in 2022 he was awarded the Fire Safety Commendation Medal from the CA Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. The Fire Safety Commendation Medal is presented to an individual for accomplishments and/or outstanding contributions in an area of fire safety and service.
In 2021, Marshall received the Wildfire Mitigation Award, the highest national honor one can receive for outstanding work and significant program impact in wildfire preparedness and mitigation. The Wildfire Mitigation Award program was established by the National Association of State Foresters (NASF), the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC), the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the USDA Forest Service (USFS).
