Pancake Breakfast
This Sunday, October 27th, is our annual pancake breakfast. We will be serving a traditional breakfast of pancakes, sausage and eggs, along with your choice of coffee or orange juice. Come visit your fire department, mingle with other community members and car enthusiasts, and enjoy a free breakfast. Donations appreciated! After breakfast, wander up the road to the Fall Colors Festival to admire the cars and shop the craft and food booths. A full schedule of Fall Colors events can be found on the visitgeyserville.com website.
Risk Reduction Efforts Continue
As we provided assistance to our neighbors in Lake County for the Glenhaven Fire, the Geyserville Fire Station remained staffed and our Fuels Crew continued to perform vegetation management as part of the District's risk reduction efforts. Did you know that over 50% of our employees' time is committed to preparedness, prevention, and risk reduction? While we maintain readiness for emergency response, we are also decreasing the possibility and severity of future emergencies.
Red Flag "Upstaffing"
Last weekend, during the Red Flag Warning, we brought on extra firefighters to patrol Northern Sonoma County Fire Protection District. Conditions were dry and windy, and positioning additional resources in places like Franz Valley decreases our response time to those areas.
Defensible Space
Our Fire Inspector, John Lilienthal, has been busy inspecting properties around the fire district, checking for clearance around homes. After inspecting this property, he wanted to share this photo as an example of adequate defensible space. Notice how the ground is clear of debris and low-hanging branches have been removed from the trees.
Adequate defensible space acts as a barrier to slow or halt the progress of fire on your property. Defensible space is the first line of defense for your home against wildfire. For more information about defensible space, visit the CAL FIRE Defensible Space website.
Vehicle Fire
September ended with a vehicle fire on the Canyon Rd off ramp. The vehicle was able to pull safely to the side of the highway and no one was hurt.
